Perfect Food Pairings with Música Tequila
One of the best experiences you can have is pairing fantastic drinks with great food.
People often choose crafted beverages, like wine, liquor, or coffee, to pair with food because there are often a lot of nuances to these types of drinks that you may not immediately taste in your first glass.
One of the less talked about spirits when it comes to pairing is tequila, which is a shame because of the many flavors you can taste in a well-made tequila.
To shake things up, here’s everything you need to know about crafting the perfect food pairings with Música Tequila.
What is a Food Pairing
Simply put, pairing foods with drinks is the process of choosing specific flavor profiles that complement one another in some way. At the core of every flavor is a makeup of chemicals in the food you eat that are communicated to your brain through your taste buds and nerve cells.
While you often hear that taste is subjective, and in many ways that’s true, there is an objective core to how we taste things that doesn’t change. Broadly speaking, things taste a certain way because of the chemical makeup of that food or drink, so when you try a wine and think it tastes like red currant, it could have similarities that actually line up with the chemical make up of a red currant you’ve had in the past.
Lucky for you, knowing the science behind specific foods and drinks isn’t necessary to have a great food pairing. World-class chefs might be thinking through an entire meal from the perspective of chemicals, but with some simple experimentation, you can be well on your way to trying foods and drinks in an entirely new way.
Now that the basics of food pairing are out of the way, let’s get into pairing food with Tequila.
How to Pair Food and Tequila
Pairing food and tequila is much easier than you might expect.
To keep things simple, you’ll have your pairing, take a sip of tequila, think about how it tastes, take a bite of your pairing, and think about how they complement or change one another. From there, you can be as simple or as complicated as you find enjoyment from. You can even pair whole meals around a drink if you really want to.
For our pairings though, we want to emphasize the natural flavors of our tequilas and create a unique flavor experience that makes you think more deeply about what you’re drinking and eating. These are our three recommended Música tequila pairings.
Three Perfect Food Pairings
To get it out of the way now, most foods you can order at a Mexican restaurant will pair well with tequila, but we want to take a slightly different approach to pairing. Tequila has a very specific flavor profile that is enhanced, like most spirits, with how long it’s aged, and we chose foods that go well with each Música Tequila offering.
Any of these three food pairings will work perfectly with Música Tequila, and we went with a specific pairing for every tequila we offer.
1. Música Tequila Blanco
One of the best things to pair with a blanco tequila is a citrus fruit. Blanco tequila is simply distilled, unaged blue agave. Blanco is enjoyed by many for its fruity, natural agave flavor, which is why citrus fruits go so well with a blanco tequila.
With our blanco, we recommend pairing it with different kinds of oranges or apples. You can create an entire platter of orange and apple types, which will each change your flavor experience with Música Tequila Blanco. For a very unique pairing, try blood oranges with your tequila.
2. Música Tequila Reposado
One of the best pairings for our Música Reposado Tequila is smoked cheeses. Reposado is aged for between two and twelve months, making cheeses a fantastic pairing to bring out some of those more nuanced flavors from the aging. That’s why we recommend smoked cheeses.
A quality smoked gouda will bring out so many flavors from the barrel aging as well as from the actual agave processing. While cheese goes well with any kind of tequila, we find cheeses are especially interesting with our Música Reposado Tequila.
3. Música Tequila Añejo
Añejo is aged for longer than a year, giving it much more of those barrel flavors that you might expect from an aged Bourbon. While you can sip any kind of tequila made well, Añejo tequila is especially delicious just on its own.
For our Añejo pairing, we find meats to be especially delicious paired with our tequila. Getting a nice char on a sirloin will bring out flavors your never knew tequila could have, and you can repeat the process with as many types of meat as you enjoy. Because Añejo tequila pairs so well with meats, this is a drink you might even dabble into pairing whole meals with.
You can of course cook meat specifically for a tequila pairing, but steaks and tequila might be a completely new favorite that you’ve never considered before.
